Afghanistan sees the deadliest earthquake since 2002!

Afghanistan’s Paktika region was hit by an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude dated Wednesday, 22nd of June, 2022.

At least 1000 people have been already reported dead and several thousand people are presumed to have been injured pressed under rubble.

Mohammad Nassim Haqqani, head of the Taliban disaster ministry, said most damages prevailed in the Paktika province.

Significant property damage has also been seen in the affected districts.

According to the USGS, the epicenter is about 44km (27 miles) from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan at a depth of 51km.

Tremors of this massive disaster were felt across over 500km in areas including Afghanistan, it’s neighbors, Pakistan and India.

These mountainous regions of Afghanistan, where the Indian and the Eurasian tectonic plates collide, have always been a prone area.

The current Taliban Government of Afghanistan, claims that rescue works are being carried out through helicopters.

Ministers of India and Pakistan have offered condolences and even promised aids to the injured victims.
